The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a pivotal role in overseeing daily environmental, health, and safety operations across various locations.
This position is integral to our facility's EHS initiatives, ensuring a secure and healthy workplace by monitoring compliance with OSHA, EPA, Wisconsin DNR, DOT, and other relevant regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Regulatory Compliance Monitoring: Act as an internal auditor for EHS activities across multiple sites; lead regional training initiatives as an EHS Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Support Strategic Initiatives: Champion the EHS Drive to Zero programs and serve as the EHS SME for various locations.
- Worksite Analysis: Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new projects and process developments.
- Hazard Prevention and Control: Guide and facilitate incident investigations to identify root causes and preventive measures; lead emergency action plan programs.
- Waste Minimization: Drive initiatives focused on reduction, recycling, and sustainable supply chain partnerships.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years in implementing occupational safety and environmental programs.
- At least 3 years of experience in a multi-site manufacturing or industrial setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in occupational safety, engineering, or a related science field.
- Experience in a corporate safety role within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with safety-related program implementation (ISO, VPP, etc.).
- Prior experience with SAP or similar ERP systems; certifications such as CHMM, CSP, CIH, or PE are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT, and local regulations.
- Proficient knowledge of safety equipment and standards.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with management and teams across various functions.
- Strong skills in ergonomic analysis and emergency action planning.
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Financial and analytical capabilities to assess project impacts.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring colleagues.
Physical Demands:
This role requires regular standing, walking, and the ability to manipulate objects and tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The work environment is typical of a manufacturing setting, with seasonal temperature variations and occasional exposure to fumes or by-products.
