Position Overview: The Oncology Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering specialized nursing care and patient education to individuals undergoing radiation therapy. This role includes preparing patients for examinations, assisting physicians, managing medical supplies, and ensuring a clean and organized nursing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized nursing support to radiation therapy patients, assessing their needs, recommending interventions, and documenting care effectively.
  • Evaluate educational requirements, provide instructional materials, and conduct patient and family education related to nursing care during radiation treatment.
  • Request and compile patient records and imaging, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians as required.
  • Support physicians during HDR procedures and provide specialized nursing care as per established protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of examination rooms and issue necessary supplies to patients.
  • Collect laboratory specimens, document results, and communicate any abnormalities to the physician.
  • Administer medications, perform patient care tasks, and maintain accurate documentation in patient charts.
  • Monitor IV lines and related equipment for patient safety.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling for lab work, imaging, and follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure proper sterilization and storage of medical instruments.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and notify appropriate personnel of shortages.
  • Oversee the maintenance of medical equipment and request repairs as needed.
  • Keep nursing areas organized and orderly.
  • Assist in training new staff and orienting nursing students.
  • Investigate incidents involving patients and staff, preparing necessary reports.
  • Uphold confidentiality of all patient and institutional information.
  • Support other departments or staff as required.
  • Document patient health information to comply with regulatory standards.

Additional Requirements: This role may require overtime and on-call duties as needed. Travel to satellite facilities may also be necessary.

Qualifications:

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Arkansas.
  • Valid Arkansas Driver's License if travel is required.
  • Current BLS certification.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in oncology nursing, typically gained through a registered nursing program.
  • Two years of nursing experience with a focus on clinical skills.
  • Familiarity with CARTI policies, patient examination preparation, and medication administration.

Reasoning and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Able to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients and healthcare teams.

Physical Demands: The role requires regular communication, standing, walking, and moderate lifting of patients. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The position involves potential exposure to infectious diseases, with appropriate safety training and vaccinations provided.
