Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, and assisting patients with activities of daily living.
  • Perform blood draws and collect specimen samples, observing and collecting data to identify patient needs and provide necessary care.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, promoting patient safety and ensuring a smooth transition of care.
  • Participate in cost-effective strategies to optimize patient outcomes, collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve this goal.
  • Provide post-mortem care and maintain patient comfort relative to their pain status.
  • Measure and document patient urinary and stool output, calorie count, and patient weight.
  • Assist with indwelling urinary catheter care, applying, maintaining, and removing external urinary catheter devices.
  • Conduct blood glucose monitoring, perform venipuncture for drawing blood samples, and establish IV access.
  • Perform nasal swabs, gather equipment required, and initiate placement IV for the patient as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Set up and operate multiple lead EKG machines, attach and remove EKG leads, and run a rhythm strip.
  • Assist with enteral tube feedings via nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes, as supervised by licensed nurse.
  • Perform chest physical/physio therapy, tracheal suctioning, tracheostomy care, and incentive spirometry treatments as delegated and supervised by the responsible registered nurse.
  • Assist with simple dressing changes, provide wound care to promote healing and maintain structural integrity of the skin, and report impaired skin integrity and/or wound impairment.
  • Assist with collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing, incorporating proper techniques for patient identification, method for collection of appropriate specimen(s), and documentation.
  • Provide orthopedic/rehab device care, don/doff compression wraps/stockings, and precept and mentor PCT Is and other PCT IIs, managing completion of documentation.
  • Participate in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the healthcare team, respond to patient-triggered alarms, and comply with The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals within scope of practice.
  • Detect, report, and act to avoid or correct safety risks, report adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority, and provide professional vigilance to assigned patients.
  • Improve patient flow and prevent care delays, perform other duties as assigned, and maintain order and appearance of patient rooms and work area.
