Job Title: Research Associate 3 - Entomology

Job Summary:

Syngenta Seeds is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate 3 - Entomology to join our Seeds Development team in Malta, IL. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting and delivering plant-insect phenotyping assays, field trials, insectary maintenance, and insect production to support insect resistance trait product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Corn and Soybean GM Trait Research: Assist in the development and execution of corn and soybean GM trait research projects, including assay development, quantitative phenotyping, and large-scale insectary management.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer technical support to the Trait Evaluation (TE) team, including writing insect efficacy trials, communicating with various teams, and external research organizations.
  • Deliver High-Quality Data: Independently and collaboratively deliver high-quality corn insect resistance phenotyping data for development projects.
  • Develop and Execute Efficacy Studies: Develop and execute efficient efficacy studies in various environments to support insect resistance trait product development.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with all Syngenta policies and regulations.
  • Supervise Technical Personnel: Supervise technical personnel and research associates.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural or Physical Sciences: A Bachelor's degree in agricultural or physical sciences with 2+ years of applied Entomology experience is required. A Master's degree in the same field is preferred.
  • Applied Knowledge in Entomology Techniques: Applied knowledge in Entomology techniques and plant-insect assay development is essential.
  • Hands-on Experience in Conducting Crop Insect Phenotyping Assays: Hands-on experience in conducting crop insect phenotyping assays is required.
  • Ability to Manage Multiple Insect Experiments: Ability to manage multiple insect experiments simultaneously is necessary.
  • Field Experience: Field experience is a must.
  • Teamwork and Motivation Skills: Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to motivate colleagues is required.

Work Environment:

  • Field, Greenhouse, Laboratory, and Office Settings: Work environment includes field, greenhouse, laboratory, and office settings.
  • Varying Temperatures and Physical Exertion: Exposure to varying temperatures and physical exertion may be required.
  • Travel: Travel may be necessary.
  • Eligibility to Work in the US: Must be eligible to work in the US.
