Position Overview
The University of Tampa is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of Cloud Infrastructure Systems Specialist.
Role Summary

The Information Technology and Security department is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Systems Specialist to oversee and enhance the Microsoft 365 environment.

This role will report directly to the Senior System Engineer and is crucial for maintaining the university's cloud server technology and server infrastructure.

The individual will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance and resource management, aiming for cost-effectiveness and maximum uptime. Additionally, the role involves safeguarding cloud environments to meet security and compliance standards.

Collaboration with various ITS teams is essential to guarantee that servers are consistently updated, secure, and operational 24/7 throughout the year.

The Cloud Infrastructure Systems Specialist will engage in needs assessments, monitoring, security configurations, and regular maintenance tasks.

They will also manage multiple environments, providing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions, including Microsoft 365 applications such as email, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Azure.

Furthermore, this role will support authentication and access management, oversee business continuity strategies, and implement other cloud services like Azure or AWS.


The position also involves coordinating Microsoft 365 cloud initiatives and offering technical guidance to project and support teams.

Key responsibilities include providing technical and architectural expertise to support cloud computing and automation efforts, focusing on the design of cloud environments and the systems that operate within them.

The specialist will recommend, develop, and implement cost-effective solutions and enhancements.


Collaboration is key in this role, as the Cloud Infrastructure Systems Specialist will work closely with faculty and students to deliver a robust technology infrastructure while adhering to industry best practices.

They will apply proven methodologies to ensure continuous system operations, resilience, disaster recovery, and thorough documentation of server systems.

This role may also involve managing vendor relationships, assisting with budget considerations, and fostering partnerships that can lead to contributions of equipment or software for educational purposes.


This position is classified as essential and may require on-call duties or reporting to work during university closures due to severe weather or other emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of email system security, vulnerability management, and critical issue remediation.
  • Monitor and eliminate email threats within the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Evaluate system backups and cloud capabilities.
  • Identify and mitigate phishing threats.
  • Manage email fraud defense measures, ensuring deliverability and authenticity.
  • Guarantee the availability and reliability of cloud systems and applications.
  • Collaborate with information security and ITS teams to develop server system policies and architecture.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Coordinate installations, upgrades, and ongoing support for cloud and server systems.
  • Respond promptly to service desk inquiries and provide status updates.
  • Plan and implement upgrades with minimal service disruption.
  • Develop implementation plans, testing procedures, and training to ensure operational reliability.
  • Establish security procedures to protect systems from unauthorized access and other threats.
  • Execute approved changes to enhance performance and availability.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of critical systems.
  • Maintain current system documentation and inventories.
  • Collaborate with vendors for issue resolution when necessary.
  • Ensure data integrity through continuous assessment of backup operations.
  • Provide advance notice of planned outages within a structured change control framework.
  • Work collaboratively with ITS members to resolve issues and assist with projects.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements in server systems and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with security measures to protect data confidentiality, availability, and integrity.
  • Support adherence to ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 practices for asset and data protection.
  • Contribute to a respectful and inclusive work environment.
Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a technology-related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in a senior IT systems engineering role with a focus on cloud technologies or Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience with scripting in MS PowerShell for at least three to five years.
  • One professional-level information security certification is required, with the potential to earn additional certifications.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred but not mandatory.
Professional Skills

  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and cloud infrastructure is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of storage configuration and administration.
  • Familiarity with IaaS, PaaS, and cloud technologies like AWS.
  • Solid understanding of technical troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Ability to facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
