Assistant Director of Finance

North Park University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Finance to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and stability of our institution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures in accordance with the college's mission and principles.
  • Monitor financial activities and ensure compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Supervise the Sponsored Project Financial Specialist and collaborate with faculty and staff to maximize funding opportunities.
  • Oversee asset management processes, including acquisition, depreciation, and disposal of assets.
  • Manage project accounting activities, including tracking expenses, revenue recognition, and reporting for capital projects, agency funds, restricted accounts, and plant funds.
  • Monitor and facilitate the release of restrictions on funds in accordance with donor agreements and institutional policies.
  • Manage interfund transactions and balances, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of higher education finance and accounting principles to support the unique needs and challenges of the college.
  • Conduct historical clean-up of financial data to ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Provide support for endowment management, including investment tracking, spending allocation, and reporting.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger by reviewing account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial transactions.
  • Prepare for and facilitate desk audits related to financial operations, ensuring readiness and compliance with audit requirements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • CPA certification or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in higher education or nonprofit sector.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations and compliance requirements preferred, including US Department of Education, NSF, NASA, State Department, State of Illinois, and Uniform Guidance.
  • Proficiency in financial management software applications and ERP systems (Ellucian Colleague preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
