Responsibilities- Respond to and resolve inquiries and questions from patients, families, and healthcare professionals in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate daily workflow in assigned areas, including sterile compounding, critical care, hematology/oncology, and emergency room.
- Assist in maintaining overall cleanliness and organization of work areas and ensuring a continuous level of readiness for inspection by external groups.
- Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining the integrity of sterile compounding areas.
- Maintain and monitor proper documentation of compounding, cleaning, testing, and certification of equipment and compounding areas.
- Efficiently operate specialty machinery, equipment, and technology, including baxa pumps, dispense prep, and check.
- Proficient in understanding sterility testing systems, USP compounding standards, and state board of pharmacy rules related to sterile and hazardous compounding.
- Assist with ordering, managing, and monitoring drug inventory in a fiscally responsible manner and maintain awareness of appropriate PAR levels in all medication storage areas.
- Participate in teaching activities, including precepting Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.
- Spends 90% of their time performing in at least one of the specialized roles listed below and maintains competencies to perform in at least two other operation areas outside the primary work area.
- Sterile Compounding and Chemo Pharmacy Technician
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Pharmacy Technician
- Transitions of Care Pharmacy Technician
- At least 5 years of experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 20-hour ACPE accredited IV training course.
- Chemotherapy certification course (required for sterile and chemo tech role).
- Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) as a Registered Technician.
- National Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) (preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for ICU pharmacy technicians only.
- Completion of PTCB-recognized medication history certificate exam (for transitions of care pharmacy technician) (preferred).
