About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Spiritual Care Specialist to join our team at Mercy. As a key member of our pastoral care team, you will provide spiritual support and guidance to patients, families, and staff, promoting a healing ministry through compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Spiritual Support: Offer spiritual guidance, counseling, and support to patients, families, and staff, respecting their diverse beliefs and values.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Work closely with healthcare teams to provide comprehensive care, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Develop and Implement Spiritual Care Plans: Create personalized spiritual care plans, taking into account patients' unique needs, values, and beliefs.
  • Communicate Effectively: Engage in open and empathetic communication with patients, families, and staff, ensuring their spiritual needs are met.
  • Stay Current with Best Practices: Stay up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and best practices in spiritual care, incorporating this knowledge into your practice.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Divinity, or a related field.
  • Experience: One year of health care chaplaincy experience, with a focus on spiritual care and counseling.
  • Certifications: Eligible for certification or in process to become Board Certified Chaplain.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four units of CPE recognized by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) by APC or NACC.
  • Language skills or experience with specific patient groups served.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for various religions.
  • Knowledge in areas of pastoral theology, medical ethics, spirituality, death and dying, and crisis intervention.
