Job DescriptionWe're seeking a highly skilled Lead Materials and Process Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Materials and Process team, you'll be responsible for applying technical knowledge and expertise to support components across our vehicle.
This role will involve building and implementing conventional and novel materials and process solutions, working with our partners to ensure that delivered hardware meets requirements, and leading to the certification and production of new AAM vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Be responsible for the Materials and Process team's workflows and focus on composites and structural bonding
- Coordinate crafting design requirements and standard methodologies for all hardware on the vehicle
- Own the evaluation and selection of composite materials and adhesives to satisfy design requirements
- Coordinate the development of adhesively bonded joints and assemblies
- Build internal material specifications and process specifications that support manufacturing and ensure quality
- Lead and coordinate testing for method development, materials characterization, allowables generation, and design validation
- Serve as the M&P representative (Signatory Authority) in design reviews, the production drawing release cycle for hardware components/assemblies, and Material Review Board (MRB) issues
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM or related field required; Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Experience in thermoset fiber composites, thermoplastic fiber composites, structural bonding, adhesives, plastics, physical and mechanical material characterization, composite material allowables generation and certification
- Knowledge of a first principles' approach to problem-solving and familiarity with 3D CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, or similar)
- Proficiency in writing R&D work instructions and documentation of R&D work
