Job Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, in the Pittsburgh Field Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advisory assistance to the Branch Chief in the development, implementation, and maintenance of coal mining regulatory and abandoned mine land programs in the Region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Branch Chief in the development and implementation of coal mining regulatory and abandoned mine land programs.
  • Review and analyze documents related to the State program amendment process to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Field Solicitor in conducting legal analyses and provide recommendations on the interpretation of environmental requirements.
  • Implement the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for the Regional/Field Offices and ensure that all NEPA requirements are met regarding reclamation actions and comparative activities with other agencies.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination.
  • Must have federal payments made by Direct Deposit.
  • Must submit ALL required documents and a completed questionnaire.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the Specialized Experience for the grade to which you are applying. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

  • Evaluating Abandoned Mine Land (AML) programs for compliance with Federal and/or State regulatory requirements.
  • Applying knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to ensure programs and procedures are consistent and/or legal.
  • Providing recommendations, technical guidance, and/or assistance on the interpretation of environmental requirements.
