Summary

The Street Maintenance Team Member engages in various unskilled and semi-skilled tasks, including compacting, installing, leveling, and finishing materials. Responsibilities include constructing and maintaining roadways, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems, as well as performing heavy manual labor with materials such as concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt, bricks, and grout.

  • Occasional sitting during vehicle rides, training sessions, or administrative tasks.

Work Environment:

  • Construction: Familiarity with materials, methods, tools, and procedures for street construction and maintenance.

  • Safety: Awareness of OSHA, City, and Federal regulations, as well as safety precautions relevant to the work.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience with computers, including typing, word processing, spreadsheets, and work order management systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license required at the time of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a City Driving permit upon hire.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or turning 18 by the time of hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must pass a reference check, background check, medical examination, and drug test.

Conditions of Employment

The City of Charlotte conducts background checks on all final candidates for positions. This includes reference checks, verification of social security, education, criminal records, and, if applicable, credit history. Background checks comply with federal and state laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

Final candidates must also pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination. Candidates may be required to take a skills test or participate in other assessments during the selection process.
