Job Overview

The Iowa Department of Revenue's Alcohol & Tax Compliance Division is currently seeking a Taxpayer Service Specialist 1. This division is responsible for administering, enforcing, and educating stakeholders regarding the state's alcoholic beverage control regulations. Within the Alcohol & Tax Operations Division, there are four distinct bureaus:
  • Licensing Administration
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Fulfillment and Distribution
  • Revenue Operations

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process documents both electronically and manually. Ensure accuracy and completeness of forms for entry into proprietary state systems.
  • Handle business license applications, issuing licenses, certificates, and permits in accordance with departmental protocols. Maintain confidentiality and make informed decisions based on a solid understanding of licensing requirements.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Iowa Code and Rules relevant to Iowa Alcohol laws.
  • Respond to inquiries via the help line, assisting with questions related to Iowa alcohol laws and escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to completing tasks efficiently with minimal oversight.
  • Assess technical or system assistance needs and resolve issues, including login support and password resets.
  • Provide assistance to front desk operations and walk-in customers.

Required Competencies:
  • Customer Service - Understanding principles and processes for delivering quality customer service, including needs assessment and satisfaction evaluation.
  • Effective communication and comprehension skills.
  • Knowledge of business practices, accounting, and office procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google software, Salesforce, eLAPS, GovConnectIowa, and managing shared files and records.
