About the Organization
As one of the most historic and distinctive cultural centers dedicated to Black heritage in the United States, the YMI Cultural Center (YMICC) has a rich legacy rooted in the vision of its founders. Our mission is to empower the Black community in Asheville, NC, and beyond, ensuring that we continue to champion Black rights and social justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership:
- Champion the mission and vision of the organization.
- Guide and support staff to ensure effective program delivery and operations.
- Facilitate open communication between the board and staff.
- Oversee the execution of programs and services in alignment with grant requirements.
- Engage actively in community discussions surrounding Black history and culture.
- Resource Management:
- Ensure financial sustainability through effective budget management.
- Collaborate with the Board Finance Committee to monitor financial health.
- Develop diverse funding strategies and engage in donor cultivation.
- Forge strategic partnerships with community leaders and organizations.
- Strategic Planning & Board Engagement:
- Lead the implementation of the board's strategic initiatives.
- Identify avenues for organizational growth and enhancement.
- Provide training for board members on policies and programs.
- Foster active engagement with board members to maximize their contributions.
- Maintain a strong focus on equity and inclusion throughout all initiatives.

Qualifications:
- A deep passion for the mission of YMICC and the communities we serve.
- A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of six years in a senior leadership role within a nonprofit setting.
- Proven strategic thinker with the ability to articulate a compelling vision.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor engagement.
- Experience collaborating with grassroots organizations and various stakeholders.
- Exceptional writing and public speaking skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Experience in team building and human resource management.

Compensation:
The salary for this position is competitive and begins in the $115K range, inclusive of a medical benefits stipend. The role also offers generous paid time off and holidays.
