Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Worker II to join our team at the State of Hawaii. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of building maintenance repair work, including supervising and participating in the repair and maintenance of buildings, planning, laying out, scheduling, and assigning work to building maintenance workers, and instructing subordinates and demonstrating proper work methods.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and participate in the repair and maintenance of buildings
  • Plan, lay out, schedule, and assign work to building maintenance workers
  • Instruct subordinates and demonstrate proper work methods
  • Check and inspect buildings, structures, equipment, and facilities for needed repairs
  • Estimate material and labor costs
  • Requisition materials
  • Inspect work in progress and upon completion for proper quality of work
  • Make oral and written reports of work completed by the crew
Requirements
  • Six (6) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work, of which two (2) years shall have been as a fully competent worker (journeyworker level)
  • Experience in supervising and participating in the repair and maintenance of buildings
  • Ability to plan, lay out, schedule, and assign work to building maintenance workers
  • Ability to instruct subordinates and demonstrate proper work methods
  • Ability to check and inspect buildings, structures, equipment, and facilities for needed repairs
  • Ability to estimate material and labor costs
  • Ability to requisition materials
  • Ability to inspect work in progress and upon completion for proper quality of work
  • Ability to make oral and written reports of work completed by the crew
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and a high level of attention to detail. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
