About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Research Support Specialist II to join our team at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a key member of our research team, you will play a critical role in supporting the care and well-being of animals used in research studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care, and treatments.
  • Observe animals and report abnormalities, sickness, and injury.
  • Assist with diagnostic, preventative, and research procedures.
  • Under minimal supervision, perform minor surgical or other non-invasive procedures.
  • Assist with colony management and data collection or reporting for designated aspects of research, animal care program, or colony management.
  • Participate in the environmental enrichment program and maintain animal records and inventory as needed.
  • Assist in capture and restraint of animals and assist in training new veterinary and/or animal care technicians.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of technical veterinary experience in a laboratory animal environment required.
  • At least three (3) years of technical veterinary experience required.
  • At least two (2) years of anesthesia/surgical support experience preferred.
  • At least four (4) years of technical veterinary experience in a laboratory animal environment preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred.
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred.
  • Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) Pennsylvania State Licensing Board certification preferred.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) certification preferred.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) certification preferred.
