Job Overview

As a Field Service Engineer specializing in Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and Motors, you will play a crucial role in delivering expert engineering support and maintenance services both on-site and remotely. This position is integral to our Industrial Systems and Technical Services department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for clients and internal engineers, addressing on-site challenges related to VFD products.
  • Provide remote technical assistance to clients and engineering teams when not engaged in fieldwork.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on client systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Utilize remote diagnostic tools to analyze equipment failures, performing on-site repairs as necessary.
  • Communicate any hardware, software, or system design issues to the factory, implementing corrective measures as directed.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues, including the repair or replacement of faulty components.
  • Maintain accurate records in the client relationship management (CRM) system to ensure timely reporting.
  • Prepare and issue Service Advice to clients and field engineers, following approval processes.
  • Document fieldwork through comprehensive service reports for client records.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain relevant safety qualifications for assigned tasks.
  • Configure equipment to assist suppliers in resolving product issues efficiently.
  • Address client concerns, including after-hours support as scheduled.
  • Investigate proposed field modifications, reporting findings and suggesting solutions to the parent company.
  • Educate client personnel on system maintenance and operational procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for additional products and services through proactive client engagement.
  • Perform commissioning, installations, quality checks, and performance evaluations of VFDs as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in electrical power systems, control system theory, software development, database management, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in personal computer hardware and software.
  • Relevant internship or cooperative education experience.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement in responsibilities.
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build successful relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 75%, often with short notice.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Research experience in electrical power systems, control systems, software engineering, or related fields.
  • Prior experience as a research assistant or intern in relevant areas.
  • Ability to install, inspect, and maintain equipment according to operational guidelines.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Mandarin, in addition to English, for international communications.
