Job Summary

Kanaan Communications, LLC is seeking a skilled Underground Drill Operator/Locator to join our team. As a key member of our outside plant construction team, you will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining drill equipment on job sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain drill equipment, including directional drills, backhoes, and skid-steer loaders, to ensure safe and efficient completion of projects.
  • Set up and maintain a safe work environment, including the use of signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and moving or stationary objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
Requirements
  • Experience with drilling equipment operation and locating, including understanding of capabilities and limitations.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, motor vehicle check, drug test, and DOT physical exam.
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify underground utilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6-12 months of experience in the utility construction industry.
  • Unrestricted Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement.
  • Ability to proficiently use locators to safely identify utilities.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Climb into and out of equipment.
  • Lift/carry 80 lbs. regularly as needed.
  • Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and a hard hat.
  • Remote work may be required, with long driving and sitting periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
