Director of Laboratory Operations

This is a critical leadership role within MyMichigan Health, responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and operation of laboratory departments. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction, expertise, and leadership to ensure the department meets the organization's needs.
Key Responsibilities- Direct regional standardization, optimization, and implementation of clinical standards, workflows, and policies within new and existing platforms.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility for preparing and monitoring laboratory budgets, approving expenditures within established limits, and ensuring appropriate documentation.
- Develop long-range plans for the system laboratory, ensuring compliance with CLIA and CAP requirements at all locations of service.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators/metrics for assigned departments and services, supporting compliance efforts and resolving areas of non-compliance.
- Provide leadership development, oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and coordinate meetings and committees related to patient care and staff development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and coordinate workgroups addressing organizational goals, develop and monitor performance indicators/metrics, and support MyMichigan compliance efforts.
- Three years of clinical laboratory experience and five years of management experience in a healthcare system similar in size to MyMichigan Health.
- Leadership skills to effectively direct a group, written and interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of basic techniques in financial analysis, ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, and maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Masters degree in a related field, Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification, and experience in laboratory management.
The successful candidate will be exposed to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death. They must be able to wear personal protective equipment, move freely about the facility, and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
