Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Culinary Assistant supports the Head Start Cook in ensuring that meals are prepared, served, and cleaned up efficiently and effectively.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Cook in delivering table settings, meal service items, and food to classrooms.
  • Contributes to food preparation tasks as assigned by the Cook.
  • Helps in serving meals to children.
  • Assists with post-meal clean-up, including washing dishes, cleaning pans, sweeping the kitchen, and operating the dishwasher.
  • Performs additional tasks as needed to facilitate smooth meal service and clean-up.
  • Engages in daily sanitation practices and completes routine weekly cleaning assignments as directed by the Cook.
  • Participates in required training sessions and meetings.
  • Acts as a substitute for the Cook when necessary.
  • May assist with food-related activities in classrooms as time permits.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations as well as Agency Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work effectively with preschool-aged children, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Exhibits sound judgment, organizational skills, and adaptability.
  • Interacts with others in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Capable of following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Physical capability to stand and move throughout the shift and lift items over 35 lbs. regularly.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Relevant experience is preferred.

Part-time Position - 15 hours per week / 39 weeks per year

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday - 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM

Grade Level: 5
