Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of our multifamily real estate management firm. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax obligations, expense tracking, vendor relations, and payroll processing.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely account reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Manage external financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and timely submission of reports.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for regulatory compliance, including DHCR registrations and financial reporting to financial institutions.
  • Enhance operational efficiency through process improvements and robust internal controls.
  • Prepare for and oversee external audits, ensuring all financial practices are compliant.
  • Conduct regular reviews of actual expenditures against budget forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow projections to support financial planning.
  • Provide regular financial status updates and generate ad-hoc reports as required.
  • Maintain organized and accurate filing systems for financial documentation.
  • Conduct internal audits and assist with external audit processes.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting and tax regulations.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or in a similar financial role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger functions, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Experience in cash management and financial risk assessment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with BJ Murray Accounting Software is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Excel and other financial software.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
