Position: Senior Software Engineering Manager - Data Platform

Location: Austin, TX

We are excited to present an opportunity for a driven and enthusiastic Senior Software Engineering Manager to oversee our Data Platform team. If you are a hands-on technology leader with a zeal for big data and achieving results, we invite you to explore this role.

In this position, you will lead a vibrant team of software engineers focused on improving the scalability of our services and infrastructure for real-time data insights. Your initial challenge will be to enhance ingestion tools to accommodate growing data volumes. Your ongoing efforts will empower your team and stakeholders with self-service capabilities, facilitating quicker iterations and decision-making processes. This role requires close collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, including data scientists, product analysts, and software engineers from different teams within the organization.

As a pivotal leader in our Data Platform organization, you will cultivate a collaborative and innovative atmosphere, emphasizing excellence in both personnel and products, in alignment with our company's values and objectives. Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Guide a team of software engineers, offering clear direction, mentorship, and support to encourage their professional development. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Technical Excellence: Advocate for best practices in software engineering, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions. Assess and implement innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance product performance and resilience.
  • Collaboration: Foster a culture of teamwork and innovation within the engineering team and across the organization. Work with stakeholders to define tasks, expected outcomes, priorities, and milestones.
  • Strategic Insight: Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to influence product roadmap decisions. Collaborate with senior leadership to align engineering initiatives with broader company goals.
  • Accountability: Establish clear responsibilities and processes for tracking progress and measuring outcomes. Celebrate and recognize achievements at both the team and individual levels, taking ownership of driving results.
  • Solution Advocacy: Present and promote solutions to internal teams and stakeholders, articulating the vision in a compelling manner and creating milestones to connect vision to execution.

Work Environment:

Qualifications:

  • A seasoned engineering servant-leader with a team-first leadership approach.
  • Experience in leading engineering teams that deliver highly available, observable, resilient, scalable, and performant systems.
  • Expertise in working with streaming data solutions, large data volumes, and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, development, version control, testing, and deployment automation.
  • Knowledge of various data collection, streaming, and processing technologies.
  • Proficient in SQL, data structures, data integrity, and schema design best practices.
  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript, and one or more of the following languages: Python, Kotlin, Go, Java, or comparable Object-Oriented language.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience preferred, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
