Position Overview:

The Architecture & Design division at Home Depot Management Company, LLC plays a crucial role in the comprehensive process of launching new retail locations.

This role is responsible for ensuring that site plans for retail and special projects align with the established Home Depot Design Criteria, standards, and specific project objectives.

It involves assessing the potential and constraints of various sites while aiming to enhance site plans for optimal investment returns.

Direct supervision and evaluation of external Site Development Coordinators and Civil engineers are essential, ensuring their outputs meet project scope, timelines, and financial plans.

Accountability extends to coordinating drawing documents with all internal stakeholders, including Real Estate, Construction, Legal, ISE, IT, AP, Operations, and Building Services.
  • Oversees the site design process in collaboration with external consultants.
  • Responsible for the development of site plans, emphasizing traffic flow (both vehicle and pedestrian) and operational plans that satisfy Home Depot requirements.
  • Assists project teams in reviewing change orders and resolving disputes as necessary.
  • Maintains the Site Design schedule within the broader project timeline.
  • Participates in the annual revision of the Design Criteria Manual, representing site-specific needs.
  • Engages in project team meetings to ensure that construction documents align with project objectives.
  • Co-hosts key milestone reviews with the development team to ensure alignment with all project goals and coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensures timely meetings with SDC and Civil teams to identify municipal requirements for each retail project at the start of planning.
  • Holds SDC and Civil accountable for producing coordinated drawings of store and site layouts at the 50% Civil review stage to confirm site systems coordination.
  • Creates a list of deviations from Design Criteria for leadership review and approval before finalizing site design documents.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with Real Estate managers and external architects to manage project teams that include various consultants.
  • Reviews architectural drawings, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Monitors the development of all assigned construction projects.
  • Hires and supervises contractors and related project consultants, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Develops budgets and oversees project cost management.
  • Tracks and maintains construction schedules.
  • Manages the construction execution of the company's legal obligations and commitments.
Reporting Structure:
  • Typically reports to a Construction Manager.
  • Manages relationships with various construction consultants and internal departments, including real estate, logistics, operations, and merchandising.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills for handling sensitive or complex situations.
  • Often deals with unstructured scenarios that necessitate innovative solutions.
  • Solves problems by evaluating options within the framework of management's objectives and standards.
  • Expected to provide infrequent status updates to management as necessary.
Travel Requirements:
  • May require overnight travel 10-25% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily involves sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move around. Occasionally, there may be a need to lift or move light items.
Working Conditions:
  • Generally in a comfortable environment but may experience moderate physical discomfort due to dust, fumes, or odors.
  • Regularly faces pressure to meet deadlines and must frequently manage challenging issues related to people or situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining construction documentation that aligns with corporate objectives across various project types and locations.
  • Strong knowledge of managing consultants and related service providers.
  • Demonstrated experience in innovative design with a focus on cost-effectiveness, consistent with corporate standards and branding.
  • Experience working on multi-million dollar capital projects.
  • Design team management experience in the retail store and facilities sector.
  • Experience in delivering Value Engineering insights on projects.
Minimum Education:
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study.
Minimum Years of Work Experience:
  • 5 years.
Competencies:
  • Experience in construction project management or related fields.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of contract documents and reading experience.
  • Skills in business, financial analysis, and budgeting.
  • Strong organizational and written communication abilities.
