POSITION OVERVIEW
BHE GT&S is seeking a skilled Financial Operations Analyst/Financial Planning Analyst II to support our dynamic team. This role can be based in various locations within our operational offices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, execute, and maintain financial models, analyses, and reports to ensure precise and timely operational and capital expenditure forecasts. This includes delivering and interpreting monthly variance analyses to the business.
- Lead the coordination, formulation, execution, and oversight of annual expense and capital budgets.
- Evaluate submissions from various departments and assess them for alignment with guidelines and objectives.
- Conduct detailed fiscal analyses on diverse issues to support budgetary decision-making, providing summarized recommendations to leadership.
- Address special requests for financial data, analyses, and insights on current or proposed initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and sustain models to assess significant capital projects.
- Offer analytical support for operational versus capital decisions and provide financial backing for the capital investment process.
- Engage in the evaluation of proposals and make recommendations to meet long-term goals, including leading special projects and developing new processes and initiatives.
- Provide guidance and expertise to management regarding accounting structures and practices.
- Assist in the compilation, analysis, and interpretation of data, contributing to project planning.
- Deliver technical direction and training on accounting matters to staff and management, including data validation with accounting system support.
- Create and maintain reports to adhere to regulatory standards and fulfill customer inquiries.
- Support the development of capital project budgets and estimates.
- Establish and manage the project task charging structure and forecasts based on approved capital budgets.
- Implement and uphold financial controls for gas infrastructure construction projects, including forecasts, cash flows, and variance analyses.
- Monitor actual project expenditures, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
- Develop and utilize cost tracking tools to oversee major project components.
- Ensure proper cost allocations, providing guidance on charging and directing costs to appropriate assets for project completion.
- Generate project reports, scenario analyses, and updates for management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide monthly accruals and cash flow forecast updates to corporate finance.
- Conduct meetings with contractors and internal personnel regarding cost control, analyzing data to mitigate financial risks and capitalize on opportunities.
- Offer financial expertise and analysis for invoice approvals, change order requests, and contract negotiations.
- Coordinate with other corporate and operational teams on all financial, contractual, and scheduling aspects of projects.
- Assist accounting, finance, and other internal departments during audits and necessary analyses.
- Act as a financial subject matter expert.
- Collaborate with project management, site staff, and other stakeholders to compile and analyze data to address current or future financial risks and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance and accurate reporting to project management and executive leadership through established internal control safeguards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Financial Operations Analyst:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, construction management, engineering, or finance, or equivalent experience (typically six years of related experience for candidates without a degree).
- Three to four years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities to interpret financial and accounting information.
- Familiarity with information technology terms, systems, and major vendors.
- Excellent research and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word, with advanced skills in spreadsheet and report design.
- Strong database management and querying skills.
- Leadership capabilities to guide and instruct others.
- Project management skills to lead initiatives with minimal direction.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with high accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Financial Planning Analyst II:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, construction management, engineering, or finance, or equivalent experience (typically four years of related experience for candidates without a degree).
- At least five years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Proficient in Excel, including macros, and familiar with SAP or Oracle.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial management, accounting standards, and project controls.
- Experience in project estimating, forecasting, and contingency analysis.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of capital project contract management and supply chain procurement.
- Familiarity with natural gas industry facilities and equipment.
- Understanding of the capital project financial lifecycle from estimation to closeout.
