Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated professional to engage in research and development activities grounded in the principles of physics. This role involves exploring the structure and behavior of matter, energy generation, and the interactions between matter and energy. Investigations will span from sub-atomic particles to intricate, large-scale systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research in various areas including the properties of matter, design of optical and electromagnetic systems, and the phenomena associated with nuclear and particle interactions.
  • Develop and enhance detection technologies and systems for both domestic and international applications.
  • Engage in the design, modeling, prototyping, and operation of measurement and detection systems.
  • Test and refine both standard and advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques, including ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, and radiography.
  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments safely and effectively, involving material samples and advanced NDE technologies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate findings effectively through verbal presentations and technical writing, including drafting proposals and reports.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and operating procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of materials science, particularly in relation to fracture mechanics and metallurgy.
  • Utilize prognostics and predictive health monitoring techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with ultrasonic guided wave techniques and magnetic flux leakage inspection.
  • Familiarity with physical modeling and data analysis tools such as CIVA and MATLAB.
  • Experience applying NDE methods across various materials.
  • Background in advanced sensor design and machine learning methodologies.

Additional Information

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a federal background investigation.

Note: This role is classified as a Testing Designated Position, subjecting the selected candidate to pre-employment and random drug testing.
