Regulatory Affairs Specialist

State Farm, a leading Fortune 50 company, is seeking a highly skilled Legislative/Regulatory Counsel to join its in-house Law Department. Our Law Department is a dynamic and collaborative team that empowers employees to grow professionally and personally. As a community, we strive to provide exceptional legal advice and support to our business partners.
The position is located in Sacramento, CA and is classified as a hybrid role, requiring a mix of in-office and remote work. The successful candidate will be responsible for representing State Farm's interests in assigned states, working closely with internal business partners, and collaborating with external stakeholders to shape the external environment.
Key Responsibilities:
The Legislative/Regulatory Counsel will be responsible for:
- Reviewing state legislative and regulatory proposals, analyzing their impact, and conveying State Farm's position as appropriate.
- Building relationships with lobbyists, trade associations, and other external partners to shape the external environment.
- Identifying and acting upon emerging legislative and regulatory trends of importance to State Farm.
- Representing State Farm before state regulators, weighing in on regulatory proposals, and assisting business partners with rate filings and complaints.
- Working closely with State Farm's Public Policy function to identify and craft public policy solutions to current and emerging issues impacting State Farm.
- Partnering with colleagues in the grassroots function to educate and engage State Farm employees and agents on important business issues.
Requirements:
- A Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school and excellent academic credentials.
- An active license to practice law in at least one state and be a member in good standing of the bar.
- A proactive and preventative lawyering mindset.
- Commitment to providing quality legal advice.
- Learning agility, including a demonstrated willingness to develop expertise in new subject matter areas.
- A history of enthusiastic participation in a team environment.
- An ability to collaborate with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to deal with complex issues in a challenging environment.

Compensation: $126,500-$297,375K annual salary, up to 20% annual bonus (results may vary from year to year)
