Pharmacy Technician Specialist-Chemotherapy

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a Pharmacy Technician Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving pharmacy services for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assist pharmacists and other technicians in maintaining an efficient medication distribution system to provide safe and efficient patient care.
- Prepare accurate and timely medications, including chemotherapy and potentially hazardous substances, utilizing aseptic techniques and pharmaceutical calculations.
- Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including IV safety software, barcode software, Cadd Pump, and automated drug dispensing technology.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room to ensure sterility.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, and adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice.
- ASHP Sterile Product Preparation Certificate.
- ASHP Hazardous Product Preparation Certificate.
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics.
- Working knowledge of sterile technique and aseptic technique proficiency.
- Working knowledge of safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy.
The incumbent works in a patient care area, works in an area where patients enter, works directly with patients, and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. There is potential to encounter hazardous medications and hazardous waste.
