We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our inpatient pharmacy team at Ochsner Health System. As a Pharmacy Technician Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving pharmacy services for our assigned areas. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare and deliver all sterile admixture products for adult and pediatric inpatient areas at the Medical Center under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities- Accurately prepare sterile admixture products, such as intravenous snap-ons, large volume parenterals, syringes, chemotherapy, and bulk manufactured products using techniques that utilize aseptic techniques and proper pharmaceutical procedures.
- Appropriately operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including IV safety software and barcode software.
- Chart all scheduled maintenance designed to ensure sterility according to protocol.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, and adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice.
- ASHP Sterile Product Preparation Certificate (or 5 years of IV Production experience in lieu of certification).
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics.
- Working knowledge of sterile technique and aseptic technique proficiency.
- Working knowledge of safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
The Pharmacy Technician Specialist will work in a patient care area, with potential exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent will also work with hazardous medications and hazardous waste.
