Job Summary

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care.

They provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse.

Responsibilities include observing patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and reporting any changes to the nursing staff.

Additionally, they may be required to de-escalate and physically intervene in situations, as part of their Safety Partner role.

Education and certification requirements include completion of a Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or completion of a US Navy Hospital Corps School.

A minimum of one year of healthcare experience is preferred, and American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications:

  • HS - High School Grad or Equivalent (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) - Certification - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
