Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with personal care needs to ensure optimal recovery during hospitalization.
  • Perform basic nursing skills as delegated by a Registered Nurse and in accordance with policy and procedure to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Provide a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Perform administrative support functions.
  • Maintain necessary skills and competencies.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • No experience required, but previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification is required.
  • Must be certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Virginia or meet one of the following criteria:
    • Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program or another approved PCT Education Program.
    • Documented proof of at least 1 year of recent experience in a similar PCT role from an outside institution.
    • Passage of a nationally recognized and accredited PCT Certification exam.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience and Didactic.
    • EMT or above certification.
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Physical Demands

The job requires frequent bending, stooping, and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are necessary, as well as attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. The ability to lift, push, and pull 20-50lbs and over 100lbs is also required. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
