Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a range of scientific instruments for materials synthesis and characterization (e.g., X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, etc.)
  • Design and manage support systems for instrumentation, including vacuum systems, thermal control, and exhaust management
  • Coordinate or perform routine maintenance with external vendors
  • Collaborate with the data management team to create a tracking system for instrument upkeep and early failure detection
  • Partner with the automation team and instrument scientists to develop and document calibration procedures
  • Assist in executing calibration processes and general instrument operations as required
  • Analyze, document, and present experimental findings to the FL97 research team
Required Qualifications
  • Practical experience with scientific instrumentation, including x-ray, vacuum, and chemical handling systems
  • Proficiency in the maintenance and safe operation of vacuum instruments and lasers
  • Experience in repairing mechanical and electrical components of scientific devices
  • Ability to develop standard operating procedures for scientific equipment
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Strong self-motivation and independent thinking, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly
  • Willingness to collaborate with highly skilled teams in a dynamic, fast-paced, and technical environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with scanning probe microscopy and/or nanoindentation techniques
  • Experience in experiment automation
  • Knowledge of computer programming
