Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning and light maintenance tasks to ensure the laboratory is clean and organized.
  • Oversee the overall organization, cleanliness, and disinfecting of work areas, restrooms, and break areas.
  • Refill supplies as needed and ensure the building is visitor-ready each day.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning of equipment, processing areas, and support areas using appropriate procedures.
  • Perform all needed sanitary requirements of equipment, processing areas, outside grounds, restroom facilities, and trash removal from production areas.
  • Sweep, wipe, scrub, sanitize, wash, and pick up as required to keep building, grounds, and equipment clean and sanitary.
  • Properly wear personal protective equipment as required and wear appropriate clothing in accordance with company standards.
  • Ensure safe and proper use of tools and equipment; ensure hand tools are free of defects; maintain a neat and orderly work area, including proper storage/disposal of cleaners, sanitizers, and other cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain current work knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Follow procedures for storage and disposal of trash and transport it to designated areas.
  • Report maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • May assist with minor maintenance projects as needed.
  • Communicate/coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient utilization of time.
  • Practice and comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and other work rules.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations as well as FSNS policies and protocols.
  • Assist with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team.
  • Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area.
  • Responsible for the completion of required training.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in a container to prepare a cleaning solution according to specifications.
  • Wash, rinse, dry, and sterilize glassware and instruments.
  • Scrub walls, floors, shelves, tables, and sinks.
  • Deliver supplies to designated work areas.
  • Supply the laboratory with distilled water.
  • Maintain inventory reports and logs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Or one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other communications/computer components.
  • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens.
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud.
  • Temperature varies from hot to cold.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
