Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Harrison High School. The successful candidate will provide instructional support and assistance to students with special needs, under the direction and supervision of a licensed school professional.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support and assistance to students with special needs in individual, small, and large group settings.
  • Implement approved modifications and accommodations of curriculum to meet the educational needs of students.
  • Supervise and facilitate students in the classroom and various settings, including the lunchroom, playground, field trips, and extra-curricular activities.
  • Support students with special needs, including emotional issues, self-help skills, fine and gross motor, visual, auditory, physical, medical, and health needs.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and assist students with problem-solving techniques and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate and communicate with special and regular educators and administrators regarding academic and behavioral issues and observations.
  • Assist with data collection, updating records, and documentation, while maintaining student files and class records.
  • Attend and participate in district and building in-service opportunities and committee work.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience, with experience working with children with special needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior management is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Core District Special Education Paraprofessional training or requirements must be acquired within 36 months of hire.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic English, writing, and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and office equipment.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
