Job Overview

Position: Special Education Teaching Assistant/Paraprofessional

Role Summary: The Special Education Teaching Assistant will collaborate closely with both special education and general classroom educators to provide essential instructional support tailored to the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities: The following responsibilities outline the primary functions of this role. Actual duties may vary based on specific classroom assignments:

  • Assist the supervising special education teacher in delivering effective instruction.
  • Facilitate learning through whole group, small group, and individualized instruction.
  • Support skill reinforcement activities.
  • Monitor student behavior and engagement in various settings including classrooms and common areas.
  • Prepare educational materials as instructed.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as typing, data entry, and filing.
  • Maintain organized records of student progress and work.
  • Engage in discussions regarding student needs and educational strategies.
  • Support initiatives aimed at enhancing parent involvement.

Physical Requirements: This role primarily involves walking and standing, with occasional sitting. Candidates should be able to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds, navigate stairs, and perform various physical activities as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not include supervisory duties over other staff members.

Budgetary Responsibilities: There are no direct budget responsibilities associated with this role.

Qualifications: The following qualifications are necessary for this position:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Prior experience working with students is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting abilities.
  • Competence in using personal computers and word processing software.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Skill in handling challenging situations with composure.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly wage ranging from $16.50 to $21.00.
  • Benefits include sick leave, health insurance, retirement plans, and priority enrollment for dependents.
  • Reports directly to the Principal.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required.
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.
