Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Special Education Assistant to join our team at Cherry Creek School. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in helping students with severe special education needs achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with classroom activities, adapting the curriculum to individual needs, and ensuring generalization of skills.
  • Implement student accommodations, supports, modifications, procedures, and programming outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Assist special education licensed staff in preparing materials, administering tests, attendance, and paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Assignment-Specific ResponsibilitiesIntegrated Learning Center (ILC) and Homebound (FAPE) Program
  • Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior for individual student needs.
  • Assist in verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis interventions to reduce the risk of self-harm and harm to others.
  • Provide technical physical care for students with special needs, including toileting, grooming, and feeding.
Online/Remote Environment
  • Assist small groups of students or individuals with online classroom activities, including curriculum accommodations or modifications.
  • Prepare assignments for students to complete at home and support students in completing assigned work.
  • Maintain records of student progress and behavior in conjunction with licensed staff.
Requirements
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
  • No professional work experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment and Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone and with others, modify curriculum, and implement behavior modification techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree.
  • Work experience with special needs children or licensed special education teaching experience.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Very heavy physical effort, including lifting 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
  • May work outdoors when monitoring student activities.
