Registered Dietitian-Heart Transplant Specialist

Under the supervision of the Department of Transplant, the Registered Dietitian (RD) assumes total responsibility for the nutritional care of all pre, waitlisted, and post-transplant patients in the outpatient (clinic) setting. The RD assesses pre-transplant nutritional needs, develops and implements nutritional care plans, and reports results as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities- Provides education on nutrition for patients and family members regarding disease-specific needs.
- Monitors long-term progress and participates in various transplant meetings and committees.
- Serves as a resource person on nutritional care of the pre- and post-transplant patient.
- Develops, implements, and records in EHR the nutrition care plan for all assigned patients.
- Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapy intervention.
- Actively participates in medical rounds and department's special projects, performance improvement activities, and research.
- Provides nutrition lectures and in-services to nutrition and medical staff as assigned.
- Collaborates with and mentors dietetic interns/students.
- Dietitians must possess the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Foods and Nutrition/Dietetics and have completed an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics internship.
- Registered Dietitian (RD).
- Two (2) years' experience with experience in comparable TH/acuity level.
- Must possess the experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Must have proven independent thinking, decision making, problem solving, and prioritizing skills.
- Must possess excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Must work effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents.
- Excellent ability to multi-task with demanding time frames.
- A Master's Degree in Nutrition.
- Prior experience working with Heart and/or Lung transplant patients.
- Knowledge of ICU/Critical Care needs.
- Knowledge of Cystic Fibrosis care needs.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish.
- Certified Clinical Transplant Dietitian (CCTD) certification.
- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) certification.
