Position Overview

The Transplant Organ Allocation Coordinator plays a critical role in the transplant departments (heart, lung, liver, and kidney) at UC San Diego Center for Transplantation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing deceased donor organ offers for transplant candidates.
  • Triage patient inquiries and manage UNOS updates and listings.
  • Report adverse events and culture results.
  • Assist with urgent transfers and delegate tasks to the Organ Allocation Specialist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Organ Allocation & Transplant Recovery Assistant Nurse Manager.

Key Responsibilities

The Transplant Organ Allocation Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the acceptance or refusal of donor organs for transplantation and coordinating the organ recovery process with various teams, including transplant surgeons, medical staff, and the Organ and Tissue Donation Team. Effective communication with patient recipients is essential.

This role requires the ability to independently manage complex logistical operations related to organ recovery and placement. The Coordinator must provide 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

This is a remote, non-exempt position that may necessitate attending on-campus meetings and training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
  • A minimum of two years of recent, solid multi-organ transplant on-call experience at a multi-organ transplant center.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to handle multiple responsibilities and assess moderately complex issues effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills while showing empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, with the ability to influence effectively across all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) certification.
  • Experience with Epic and Phoenix systems.

Special Conditions

  • Must be flexible to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • This position requires on-call 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check and pre-employment physical examination.

Compensation

Annual Full Pay Range: $170,485 - $170,485 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $81.65

Compensation factors include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other organizational needs.
