Position Overview

The Environmental Project Coordinator/Manager is expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations, including NEPA, the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and the Clean Water Act (CWA), along with the interconnections among these regulations. This role requires experience in managing both small and large-scale projects, particularly those related to NEPA analyses and land/resource planning that involve intricate resource issues, agency relationships, and stakeholder dynamics.

Key responsibilities include overseeing teams conducting a full spectrum of environmental analyses and managing public involvement efforts for NEPA or other planning projects. The Coordinator will also be involved in developing complex planning documents such as Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), resource management plans, and habitat conservation plans, as well as supervising project teams and junior staff. Extensive experience in coordinating with various federal and state agencies is essential.

Environmental Project Coordinators are expected to effectively manage large, intricate projects from inception to completion, understanding client needs and assembling the necessary project teams to deliver quality work on time and within budget. This role requires a consultant mindset to meet project demands and schedules, with the possibility of extended hours during peak periods.

Core Competencies

The Environmental Project Coordinator/Manager is expected to maintain a high level of proficiency in the following areas:

Education & Experience

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in environmental project coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in drafting environmental assessments and EIS documents.

Business Development

  • Develop and implement detailed project scopes and assumptions for varying sizes and complexities.
  • Engage in marketing efforts and client outreach to foster relationships.
  • Assist in securing small and large projects for ERO.
  • Manage Master Services Agreements or other client agreements.

Project Management

  • Create and execute work plans that address complex environmental and regulatory challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, agencies, and team members regarding project documentation and coordination.
  • Prepare project management documents and manage stakeholder engagement.
  • Facilitate multi-agency meetings and public forums.
  • Ensure the timely and budget-compliant completion of regulatory documents.
  • Delegate tasks to junior staff and communicate expectations clearly.
  • Oversee the production of complex deliverables such as technical reports and compliance documents.
  • Uphold scientific and regulatory integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

Leadership

  • Lead by example and mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain high standards of quality assurance and control.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to remain an expert in the field.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Fieldwork may involve high elevations and rugged terrain. Applicants should be physically capable of performing all aspects of fieldwork and lifting up to 20 pounds. Work may also include sedentary tasks such as computer use.
