Job Overview

Position Summary:

A Recovery Support Advocate plays a crucial role in assisting individuals on their journey to recovery. This position is filled by someone who has firsthand experience with mental health challenges or substance use disorders and is committed to supporting others in their recovery process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a positive role model for clients dealing with mental health or dual diagnosis issues, employing various strategies to promote recovery.
  • Educate clients about available services that can aid in their recovery journey.
  • Mentor individuals facing mental health challenges or substance use disorders, guiding them through the recovery process.
  • Provide assistance in applying for supplemental programs and completing necessary documentation.
  • Identify and develop services to address gaps in support for individuals with mental health or dual diagnosis issues.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams, ensuring client consent is obtained for participation.
  • Facilitate intake and discharge planning in partnership with clients.
  • Monitor client satisfaction and relay important information to healthcare providers and other relevant staff.
  • Coordinate responses to inquiries from state and local partners, as needed.
  • Conduct presentations and offer technical assistance to stakeholders, including Medicaid and mental health boards.
  • Participate in committees and technical assistance calls related to peer recovery support.
  • Provide training for staff and interns on the delivery of peer support services.
  • Document all relevant information as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

General Requirements:

  • Adherence to the ethical standards set forth by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and agency personnel.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Educational Background:

A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Certification:

Eligibility for Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (APS) is necessary, with preference given to those already certified.

Travel Requirements: Minimal to moderate travel, primarily local.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during daytime hours.

Compensation: Salary is based on licensure and experience.
