Job Summary

To provide technical, supportive, age-specific, and developmentally appropriate patient care functions for assigned clinical areas. The Medical Assistant II may function as a member of a Patient Centered Medical Home clinical team or may function in a role that includes routine administrative and clinical tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comfort measures to patients and families
  • Perform technical and supportive patient care skills, incorporating the patient's plan of care and following approved policy and procedure
  • Obtain vital signs, accurately document chief complaint and reason for visit, and use aseptic techniques and infection control measures in the performance of duties
  • Collect excretory specimens, obtain blood samples by venipuncture, and accurately perform tests such as basic urine chemistry using chemical strips, guaiac, Ph, blood glucose, UPT, and hemocult
  • Measure and record intake and output as ordered, prepare and assist patients undergoing treatments, examinations, and procedures, and recognize patient care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential crisis
  • Under direction of physician, provide other treatments and care to patients appropriate to training, as assigned, and recognize and communicate patient needs and unusual occurrences with patients/families
  • Refill patient medications as requested, using the guidelines for the prescribing physician/provider in their assigned area and in accordance with the policy C51, Prescription Refill Management for Ambulatory Care Services
  • Safely and properly administer medications as assigned, accurately document/communicate interventions and measurements, and communicate relevant information to appropriate healthcare provider
  • Under supervision, complete accurate, concise, and legible documentation on patient clinic record, assist with medication reconciliation as required, and assist in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment
  • Respect and support patient rights, serve as patient/family advocate, practice principles of patient and employee confidentiality, and utilize available resources and seek assistance in dealing with ethical dilemmas, as appropriate
  • Practice positive customer peer relations, consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner, report and seek assistance in dealing with guest complaints/concerns, and establish and maintain a positive rapport with patient/family and co-workers
  • Participate in and support continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic/departmental level, as appropriate, demonstrate acceptable productivity and practices cost containment, prioritize and complete all work in an effective and efficient manner, and demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility
  • Function as an interdependent and supportive team member, provide support and assistance as appropriate, with direction, remain calm and purposeful and respond in an appropriate, professional manner in emergent or chaotic situations, participate in clinic meetings/activities and support the clinical, departmental, and organizational philosophy and goals, accept responsibility for own growth/development, participate in in-services and ongoing education programs, and remain current on all in-service/education/credentials/certification requirements for position, as appropriate
  • Exchanges constructive feedback with peers and others, conduct self-evaluation and participate in developmental goal setting, and contribute to the partnership among clinical practitioners, patients, and families ensuring decisions respect patients' wants, needs, and preferences
Requirements
  • High school or equivalent
  • Three years experience
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with a nationally recognized accreditation organization (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, or other)
  • CPR Certification required
Work Schedule

On-site, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and as needed on occasion. Floating to ambulatory network clinics as needed on occasion.
