Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Operations Technician II to join our team at the University of Texas Medical Branch. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in industrial/commercial trades and a proven track record of maintaining and repairing heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively maintain all aspects of assigned area of responsibility, including performing detailed inspections of equipment and identifying maintenance needs.
  • Consult with customers on priority of work and assume full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns, serving as a liaison between customers and Property Services.
  • Perform major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment, and start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Participate in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections, and commissioning, and support area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, and adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership.
  • Two years of experience at the journeymen level, or eight years of Industrial/Heavy Commercial experience in at least one craft.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and perform frequent bending, standing, and walking.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use and operate handheld electronic communication devices, and skills associated with diagnostic testing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years of journeymen-type experience.
Working Environment

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments, with exposure to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals, and some exposure to weather and physical hazards.

Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms, with exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards, and proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.

Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation, and work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under-floor crawlspaces, and manholes.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, with the possibility of extended hours or rotating shifts.
