Maintenance Operations Director

About the Role:

The Maintenance Manager is a key member of our team at Spartech, responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of employees engaged in chemical production plant support. This includes central maintenance, utilities supply, treatment of incoming water, pretreatment of waste waters, and engineering stores.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs, procedures, and practices to promote a safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, ensuring expenses are within acceptable levels.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee annual plant and boiler shutdown activities.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance functions, including central maintenance.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute strategic capital expenditure projects.
  • Provide advisory support to the plant-engineering group.
  • Maintain plant engineering standards and compliance.
  • Support and coordinate off-shift maintenance staff.
  • Drive cultural changes necessary for the organization's success.
  • Resolve personnel conflicts and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develop systems and use applicable tools to improve understanding of maintenance costs and utility measures relative to overall goals of reliability.
  • Oversee the daily operation of utilities systems for the site.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment as needed, including steam boiler internals.
  • Manage engineering stores functions to properly support plant needs, including maintenance material and contracting needs, process material needs, raw material purchasing, and physical inventory.

Requirements:

  • Solid knowledge in most or all of the following: industrial maintenance, plant electrical systems, AC/DC, boiler room operations, welding, pneumatics, plumbing, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of budget administration and financial reporting preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong team environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and policies/procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable business periodicals, journals, technical manuals, and government regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels and types of internal and external individuals, including speaking effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including computing rates, ratios, and percents; ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
