Position Overview:
Acts as a representative of the commander, Kansas City District, focusing on financial, accounting, and managerial matters that necessitate thorough examination. Responsibilities include conducting rapid response audits, ensuring audit readiness, providing consulting services, managing risks, and liaising with external audit entities to ensure compliance.
Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and/or experiential criteria outlined below.
Experience encompasses both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.Resumes must clearly articulate relevant experience; if qualifying through education, transcripts will be required as part of the application process.
Basic Requirement for Auditor:
A
Degree:
A bachelor's degree (or higher) in accounting, or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration, which includes or is supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. Up to 6 hours of credit may be in business law.
ORB.
Combination of Education and Experience:
Must include at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
The applicant's background must also include one of the following:- Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality, which can include up to 6 hours of business law; OR
- A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; OR
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial coursework in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; AND (b) a panel of at least two higher-level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and related fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; AND (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
Specialized Experience Requirements:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement in the Education Section, to qualify for this position, candidates must also meet the Specialized experience qualification requirements listed below:
GS-12-Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex professional audit activities involving the analysis of accounting data and/or the operational practices for an organization; studying limited background material to gain program information and preparing audit plans based on the most appropriate techniques; independently preparing working papers and files in accordance with Government Auditing Standards; and preparing reports that present findings, identify causative situations, and recommend corrective actions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal positions allow for the substitution of education for the required experience to qualify. For this job, candidates must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone; no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement GS-12: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
