Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and service of food, ensuring that all food is handled, stored, prepared, and cooked in accordance with good practice.
  • Use the appropriate work equipment and PPE provided, and report safety deficiencies to the Supervisor.
  • Serve Service Users, Staff, and Visitors in a polite and efficient manner.
  • Clean the prescribed areas as laid down in the departmental cleaning schedules.
  • Undertake basic food preparation, including serving patient meals in the kitchen or at ward level if required.
  • Transport goods to and from the Catering Department as required.
  • Keep all kitchen equipment and rubbish rooms clean and tidy at all times, ensuring waste bins are compacted and disposed of at frequent intervals.
  • Operate the dishwasher, dismantle, and keep clean.
  • Undertake general duties, including messenger duties, handling of stores, transporting, cleaning, and clearing of food trolleys, and operating mechanical scrubbing machines.
  • Check equipment for faults, report any maintenance required, and notify the Site Supervisor.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality concerning patients and their visitors.
  • At the end of each shift, store all equipment used in the appropriate storage.
  • Report any accident or theft immediately to the Site Supervisor.
  • Keep minor records as instructed by the Supervisor.
  • Ensure that the Trust's procedures and policies are adhered to.

Requirements:

  • Able to work with challenging service users in a secure Mental Health environment.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (although training can be provided).
