Job Description

At SGS, we are seeking an experienced Environmental Laboratory Supervisor to join our team in Anchorage, AK. As a key member of our Organics team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient sample throughput, and maintaining data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate workflow to ensure timely turnaround of samples
  • Work with Team Leads to manage staff and instrumentation resources
  • Use LIMS to track sample status and update as required
  • Apply technical judgment to identify potential problems with samples
  • Implement best practices to maximize operational efficiency and data quality
  • Lead by example, demonstrating good leadership skills and empowering subordinates
  • Ensure staffing levels are adequate for sample volumes and staff are properly trained
  • Work with the Laboratory Manager to oversee hiring and training of laboratory personnel
  • Assist with training new analysts to become productive team members
  • Manage lab supplies inventory to ensure adequate stock for current workloads
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure team members do the same
  • Address safety problems promptly to minimize exposure and promote safe practices
  • Keep supervisory and management teams informed of potential issues
  • Provide information on instrumentation, production, and staff matters as required
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and 4+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience
  • Advanced English language skills
  • Knowledge of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply common sense and deal with problems involving several variables
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports, and speak effectively
  • Demonstrates integrity, respect, and excellent time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with LIMS
