CLASS TITLE:
CUSTODIAN (225 Day Position); 4 AM - 12 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Carry out standard cleaning operations at designated educational facilities to ensure that buildings, locker rooms, and surrounding grounds are maintained in a pristine, organized, and secure state.

BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Adhere to all regulations, policies, and administrative guidelines established by the governing educational authority.

Execute routine cleaning tasks at assigned school locations; sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors, as well as vacuum carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other designated areas; perform spot cleaning and shampooing of carpets; undertake carpet stretching and repairs as needed.

Sanitize classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, cafeterias, offices, and related facilities as required; maintain gymnasium floors by sweeping, mopping, and cleaning as directed; monitor gym activities to ensure orderly conduct and safeguard the premises from damage; clean tables, chairs, and floors post-lunch periods as assigned.

Disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers, and urinals; clean mirrors, tiles, and windows.

Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the appropriate authorities; recommend maintenance repairs as necessary; ensure the security of facilities; report any suspicious or unauthorized individuals on campus; inform supervisors of rule infractions.

Wash windows and walls; clean chalkboards, trays, and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners; arrange furniture, supplies, and equipment to prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings.

Dust and polish furniture and woodwork; perform minor, non-technical repairs as needed.

Lock and unlock doors and gates as necessary; maintain security of assigned areas according to established protocols; deactivate alarm systems in the morning and activate them in the evening as instructed.

Order cleaning supplies following established guidelines and procedures.

Collect and dispose of paper, trash, and debris around school grounds and within buildings; sweep and clean walkways and entrances; manage trash disposal according to established protocols; wash out trash receptacles and adhere to sanitation standards.

Pack, unpack, load, receive, and store educational materials and supplies.

Operate cleaning machinery such as vacuums, floor strippers, buffers, polishers, carpet shampooers, scrubbers, and power sweepers as assigned.

Clear walkways and steps of snow and ice as directed.
Respond to urgent cleaning situations such as spills; maintain records of observed maintenance and safety concerns.
Participate in extensive summer cleaning initiatives as assigned.
Perform related duties as necessary.
Maintain a professional appearance throughout the workday.
Utilize technology effectively in daily tasks.
Ensure regular attendance.
Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in custodial work and routine maintenance.
Proper storage techniques for equipment, materials, and supplies.
Correct lifting methods.

ABILITY TO:


Perform standard custodial tasks at assigned educational facilities to keep buildings, locker rooms, and surrounding grounds in a clean, organized, and secure condition.

Utilize cleaning materials, equipment, and methods in accordance with established standards.
Acquire and apply knowledge of schedules, procedures, and equipment used in custodial work.
Learn and implement appropriate safety measures and procedures.
Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order and ensure proper security.
Carry out minor non-technical repairs.
Observe and report maintenance and repair needs.
Perform physically demanding tasks.
Understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Meet deadlines and schedules.
Communicate effectively with others.
Inspect and ensure the security of facilities during assigned shifts.
Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
Walk, bend, lift, push, and stand for extended periods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to:
high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by state law.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined by the governing board.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this role will be assessed in accordance with the provisions of the governing board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
