CLASS TITLE: CUSTODIAN

(225 Day Position); 4 AM - 12 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance tasks at designated educational facilities to ensure that buildings, locker rooms, and surrounding grounds are kept in a pristine, organized, and secure state.

BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  • Adhere to all regulations, policies, and administrative guidelines established by the Board of Education.
  • Execute regular cleaning duties at assigned school locations; including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as vacuuming carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other designated areas; perform spot cleaning and carpet shampooing as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, cafeterias, and related facilities; ensure gymnasium floors are swept and cleaned; monitor gym activities to maintain order and protect the facility from damage; clean tables and floors post-lunch periods.
  • Sanitize drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers, and urinals; clean mirrors, tiles, and windows.
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the appropriate authorities; recommend maintenance repairs as needed; ensure the security of buildings and report any suspicious or unauthorized individuals on campus.
  • Wash windows and walls; clean chalkboards and trays; arrange furniture and supplies for special events or meetings.
  • Dust and polish furniture and woodwork; perform minor, non-technical repairs as required.
  • Manage the locking and unlocking of doors and gates; maintain security in assigned areas according to established protocols; operate alarm systems as directed.
  • Order cleaning supplies following established procedures.
  • Collect and dispose of paper, trash, and debris around school grounds and inside buildings; maintain cleanliness of walkways and entrances; adhere to sanitation standards.
  • Handle the packing, unpacking, loading, receiving, and storing of books and supplies.
  • Utilize cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor strippers, buffers, and carpet shampooers as assigned.
  • Clear walkways and steps of snow and ice as directed.
  • Respond to emergency cleaning situations; maintain records of maintenance and safety issues.
  • Participate in extensive summer cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Incorporate technology into daily tasks and maintain regular attendance.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
