The Senior Operating Room Clinician is a distinguished role model in professional nursing practice, specializing in expert clinical practice, education, and evidence-based practice. This senior position is responsible for guiding the unit through complex evidence-based practices and process improvements to enhance their specialty. The clinician collaborates with management to foster a culture of excellence in nursing practice and patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the daily operating room schedule.
  • Managing staffing schedules, including call-offs and vacations.
  • Supervising service lines for vendor management and procurement of supplies and equipment.
  • Completing bi-weekly payroll.
  • Conducting staff reviews and evaluations for direct reports.
  • Performing in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • A minimum of three years of nursing experience is required, with a BS/BSN degree. A master's degree in nursing is required if the BS degree is not in nursing, or a master's degree in a related field if the BSN is held. Employees with a BSN may substitute a master's degree with a UPMC-approved nursing certification, which must be obtained within one year of hire or transfer and maintained thereafter.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and patients/families.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a complex environment, managing multiple and changing priorities.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment and critical thinking skills necessary for various aspects of patient care.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required, along with CPR certification based on AHA standards, which includes both a didactic and skills demonstration component.
