Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Actuarial Fellow / Instructor to join our team at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate level insurance and risk management courses in person and online.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in various areas of insurance and risk management, including fundamentals of risk management, ERM, all types of insurance coverages, employee benefits, and the role of insurance in retirement planning.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching methods and materials to engage students and promote learning.
  • Advise and mentor students, providing guidance on academic and career goals.
  • Contribute to the development of new courses and programs in insurance and risk management.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including research and publication, to advance the field of insurance and risk management.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Excellent academic record and teaching competence or demonstrated potential to be an outstanding teacher.
  • Ability to contribute positively to a multicultural campus.
  • Desirable: Earned Master's degree in a business or other insurance or risk management related certification, significant professional experience in the insurance industry, and experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and current developments in the field of insurance and risk management.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques and ability to use case-based or other interactive teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Strong competency in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of online integrated database systems for student grading and course content delivery.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators, and educational institution representatives with different backgrounds and points of view.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as well as have excellent digital communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Michigan State University.
  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
