Role Summary:

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position is crucial in providing both direct and indirect patient care, ensuring a high standard of healthcare delivery through professionalism, compassion, and responsiveness to the needs of patients, physicians, and team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of surgical environments, including light fixtures and tables.
  • Verify supplies, instruments, and equipment against preference cards, ensuring all necessary items are available.
  • Scrub for assigned surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Handle specimens accurately and responsibly.
  • Support the preparation of patients for surgical procedures.
  • Maintain and care for surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Restock and clean operating rooms post-procedure.
  • Participate in updating preference cards as necessary.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to team meetings and seek process improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff and students, fostering teamwork to enhance patient care.

Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a surgical technologist.
  • BLS certification (AHA).
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience; 2-3 years preferred in an acute care setting.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital environment is essential.
