Surgical Technologist Job Description

At Versa Recruiting, LLC, we are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of sterile technique, equipment, and supplies needed for various surgical procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses.
  • Participate in teamwork on the unit, promoting a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
  • Act as a patient advocate, protecting confidential information and promoting patient safety.
  • Seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or services delivered.
  • Report potential patient safety issues using the occurrence reporting system.
  • Attend in-service presentations and complete mandatory education requirements.
  • Use the Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  • Maintain regular, punctual, and dependable attendance.
  • Handle medications, including IV fluids and contrast media, safely and effectively.
  • Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Scrubs, gowns, and gloves as necessary.
  • Set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
  • Perform appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation and before incision closure.
  • Gown and glove the surgeon and assistant.
  • Help in draping the sterile field.
  • Pass instruments, etc., to the surgeon during procedures.
  • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures.
  • Prepare sterile dressings.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist other members of the team with terminal cleaning of the room.
  • Assist in preparing the room for the next patient.
  • Record Flash Steam Log and Cidex Log completely and accurately according to policy.
  • Participate in the time-out procedure.

Job Qualifications:

  • Current BLS Certification through AHA or ARC.
  • Current CST Certification preferred.
  • Registration as a Surgical Tech by Colorado Division of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Operating Room Technicians.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Surgery Technician.
  • Advanced knowledge in the scrub role and responsibilities for majority of surgical specialties.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Positive and professional communication skills.
